Dear BVUSD Community,
I am writing to share some unfortunate news about Strawberry Elementary’s principal, Mr. Josh Wilson. Principal Wilson has encountered unexpected medical concerns requiring an immediate leave of absence to focus on his health and recovery.
While Principal Wilson’s return date is currently unknown, we are committed to ensuring Strawberry Elementary remains in capable hands during his absence. We are pleased to welcome Dr. Scott Mahoney, a well-respected retired administrator from Sonoma County, who has graciously agreed to support Strawberry Elementary, as we start the school year.
Dr. Mahoney rejoins our district with extensive experience in Sonoma county schools and a special connection to BVUSD. His first job in Sonoma County was as principal at the old Bennett Valley School for three years. During his 19-year tenure as superintendent/principal in the Waugh School District, Dr. Mahoney continued to collaborate closely with BVUSD to establish innovative practices across our districts. After later retiring as superintendent/principal in Marin county’s Ross School District, Dr. Mahoney has continued to serve in various interim principal and superintendent positions across Sonoma county. Incidentally, Dr. Mahoney played a pivotal role in bringing me to BVUSD.
Dr. Mahoney is excited to support Strawberry’s staff, students, and families during Principal Wilson’s leave and looks forward to connecting with everyone in the coming days. You can reach Dr. Mahoney at scott.mahoney@bvusd.org.
On behalf of BVUSD administration and our Board of Education, we understand that this news may raise questions and concerns. We want to affirm our commitment to our students, staff, and families. We are taking all necessary steps to ensure a smooth transition, and are confident in Dr. Mahoney’s ability to provide strong leadership and continuity for our community.
Should additional details become available, I will keep you informed. In the meantime, please join me in respecting Principal Wilson’s privacy during this difficult time. We wish him a speedy recovery and are keeping Principal Wilson and his family in our thoughts.
Thank you for your valuable partnership, patience and understanding as we start the school year during this transition.
