Update on Recent Emergency Alerts

Posted Date: 12/05/24 (2:01 PM)

Dear Staff and Families,

We want to acknowledge the recent emergency alerts reported in our area. Notably, a magnitude 5.9 earthquake, followed by a 2.5 magnitude aftershock, occurred in Cobb, approximately 40 miles from Santa Rosa. This prompted the U.S. National Weather Service to issue a Tsunami Warning for coastal areas in parts of California and Oregon.

There have been no reports of shaking or tsunami impacts in the Santa Rosa area, and our schools remain fully operational. Fortunately, Santa Rosa, being inland, is not significantly vulnerable to tsunamis.

Our schools have comprehensive earthquake and emergency preparedness plans in place, including regular drills and protocols to ensure readiness for such events. If the need ever arises, both schools are prepared to promptly implement safety measures.

We are closely monitoring updates from reliable sources including the United States Geological Survey (USGS) and U.S. Tsunami Warning Centers to stay informed about any potential risks.

We encourage families to use this opportunity to discuss earthquake safety at home and to ensure your own emergency plans are in place.  MyShake and ShakeAlert® may be useful resources for alerts and preparedness.

Thank you for your cooperation as we work together to prioritize safety and preparedness.

Sincerely,
