BVUSD Message from our district office.
DISTRICT NEWS
BENNETT VALLEY UNION SCHOOL DISTRICT
Dear Yulupa Community,

I am excited to announce that after a comprehensive search, we have selected Mrs. Rachel Hankerson as Yulupa’s next Principal!

Before highlighting the many qualities that make Principal Hankerson an outstanding fit for Yulupa, I need to clarify that this message is being shared ahead of some key details. Specifically, Mrs. Hankerson’s official start date is still being determined, as we work to ensure a smooth transition for all involved. Our shared goal is to avoid any leadership gaps in either district. Fortunately, we have some flexibility with the timeline, thanks to the exceedingly capable hands of Principal Calloway and Principal Kearnery.
About Principal Hankerson

Mrs. Hankerson grew up in Sonoma County and already feels a deep affinity for Bennett Valley, with one of her children currently enrolled in a Yulupa kindergarten classroom and another preparing to start in our TK program next year. She lives in Santa Rosa with her husband and their four children. Their eldest son is attending Butte Community College, and their daughter is a student at Lawrence Jones Middle school.

Principal Hankerson earned her Bachelor’s Degree at San Francisco State University, where she also played soccer as a Gator. She later earned both her Special Education and Administrative Credentials at Sonoma State University, along with a Master’s in Educational Administration with an emphasis in Curriculum and Instruction.

Her teaching career began in 2010 as an Education Specialist at Hahn Elementary School in Cotati-Rohnert Park Unified School District. She later served two years as Program Specialist at the district office, a role supporting students, principals, and teaching staff district-wide, before returning to Hahn Elementary as principal in 2017.

During her tenure as Hahn’s beloved principal, she also worked with the California Principal Support Network (CAPS) gaining significant expertise in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs). Under her leadership, Hahn Elementary was recognized as a National Model PLC school last November, a remarkable achievement that has led to invitations from schools nationwide seeking her support in improving PLC practices and student achievement.

A former competitive soccer player, Mrs. Hankerson embraces a team-based leadership style; she is a passionate advocate for building strong relationships and collaborative partnerships across the school community.
Next Steps

Principal Hankerson will meet BVUSD staff on Tuesday, September 17. In coming weeks, wie will share additional opportunities for the community to meet her, along with more clarity about her start date.

Mrs. Hankerson’s reputation affirms her exceptional talents, and we are incredibly fortunate to have secured a leader of her caliber. We will continue to keep the community updated as we finalize the transition timeline.

Sincerely,
Lexie Cala
BVUSD Superintendent
